However, the disease is complex \u2013 it can cause&nbsp;a multitude of symptoms and is often accompanied by comorbid conditions, such as&nbsp;irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)&nbsp;or chronic fatigue syndrome. Since fibromyalgia was&nbsp;formally recognized only a few decades ago, doctors are still learning&nbsp;about the illness and&nbsp;might not be able to prepare fibro patients for all the different symptoms they may experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To better understand the various ways in which this illness can&nbsp;affect people, we&nbsp;asked our Mighty community&nbsp;to share some of the physical symptoms of&nbsp;fibromyalgia&nbsp;that surprised them. Let us know in the comments below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Here\u2019s what the community shared with us:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. \u201cHaving a pain flare-up causes me to feel nauseous and so physically ill.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. \u201cThe relentless itching that pops up randomly, has no rhyme or reason, sometimes comes with hives or red spots. Itching that is insatiable and moves around from place to place.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. \u201cThe constant feeling of being tired. I sleep between eight and 12 hours a day and I\u2019m still always tired.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4. \u201cForgetting common words that I use every day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5. \u201c[Having an]&nbsp;overactive bladder.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>6. \u201cAll the other medical conditions that come with it\u2026&nbsp;migraine, IBS [irritable bowel syndrome],&nbsp;Raynauds phenomenon, chronic fatigue,&nbsp;insomnia&nbsp;and so many more. It is rarely a diagnosis on its own.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>7. \u201cSkin sensitivity. If someone brushes past me even lightly it feels like I\u2019ve been heavily hit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>8. \u201cHorrible menstrual cycles&nbsp;that leave [me]&nbsp;in bed with a heat pad on [my]&nbsp;stomach and gasping in the fetal position.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>9. \u201cFeeling \u2018loopy.\u2019 I feel like I\u2019m drunk. I even lose my balance while walking.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>10. \u201cThe occasional&nbsp;blurry vision&nbsp;even with glasses, like you\u2019re seeing things through water.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>11. \u201cThe constant headaches\/migraines I deal with on a daily basis.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>12. \u201cWeird skin sensation and&nbsp;lack of temperature control.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>13. \u201cAbsolute klutziness. I can trip over my own feet and roll my ankles walking in grass. It is an extreme case of incoordination.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>14. \u201cBlisters after being in the sun. Even with sunscreen use\/no sunburn.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>15. \u201cFeeling like I have bugs crawling in me to the point I will itch myself raw.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>16. \u201cI was surprised that even my hair can hurt.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>17. \u201cThe constant sweating, even when it isn\u2019t hot.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>18. \u201cBreaking out into a rash for no reason.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>19. \u201cThe weakness in my hands and arms from the pain. I played the violin for six years and had incredibly strong hands, but when my fibromyalgia symptoms started my hands were the first thing affected and the strength has never returned.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>20. \u201cSmells making me violently ill.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>21. \u201cSurprising symptom? No clue. Most shocking thing is not even knowing what\u2019s a fibromyalgia-related symptom anymore and what\u2019s not. So many symptoms, so many co-existing conditions. I have no clue what\u2019s a fibromyalgia symptom anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>22. \u201cNeurological slowness! Poor instant recall.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>23. \u201cThe way that some symptoms can take [me]&nbsp;out for days and then be gone, just to come back the next day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>24. \u201cHair falling out! Every time I shampoo I have enough hair that falls out to make a wig. Luckily, I have a lot of hair.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>25. \u201cVaginal muscle spasms! Yep, it leaves nothing untouched! And no, it\u2019s not pleasant!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>26. \u201cThe never being comfortable, ever. You sit down and fidget and squirm and try to get comfortable. You lay down and fidget and squirm and try to get comfortable. You try to stand up and fidget and squirm and try to get comfortable. Nothing is comfortable anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>27. \u201cSounds. Actually being irritated by different sounds so much that [I]&nbsp;leave the place [I\u2019m]&nbsp;at.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>28. \u201cMy skin always feeling like it\u2019s severely sunburnt. I never thought about how much clothing could hurt. I shop now more for the feel of the fabric and its looseness on my body than how it looks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>29. \u201cI\u2019m either starving no matter how much I eat or the thought of food makes me sick \u2013 there is no in between.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>30. \u201cTingling and weakness at the end of a busy day. It feel like [my]&nbsp;body is desperately trying to heal itself when it\u2019s tired.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>31. \u201cMy hands twitch and shake. Never had it before until now. Weirdest thing ever! Doesn\u2019t hurt, but I have lost my grip of things.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>32. \u201cWater hurts. It\u2019s so hard to explain that getting into a pool or lake that is cold is too painful for me. Even showering hurts.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>33. \u201cYou know what?
